GENDER PRACTICES OF KYIV

Gender Committee of "Kyivteploenergo"

The Gender Committee of "Kyivteploenergo" was established in 2019 with the support of USAID (Energy Security Project, ESP). Its mission is to ensure equal working conditions for all employees, enhance women’s resilience, and promote their involvement in decision-making processes.

The Committee has achieved notable success in increasing women’s participation across various roles, including leadership and technical positions, making it the first initiative of its kind in Ukraine’s energy sector. Over five years, the percentage of women in leadership roles has increased by 39%, and the number of women in technical roles has risen by 21%.

Following the onset of military aggression, the Gender Committee shifted its priorities and actively mobilized humanitarian aid for energy infrastructure professionals in Kyiv. The Committee organized support for women who ensure the city's heating services in emergency situations, raising 10.5 million UAH to procure food, first-aid kits, tourniquets, and emergency medical supplies.

At the initiative of the Gender Committee of "Kyivteploenergo" and with support from the Gender Equality Office, 28 resilience training sessions were organized in collaboration with the Kyiv Resilience Center and the Israel Trauma Coalition (ITC). These sessions, held as part of an international platform for psychoeducation and psychological support, train employees in stress management using Israeli methodologies. The training covers self-preservation techniques, burnout prevention, and psychological support for colleagues affected by war-related stress factors.

Yuliya Orel, Head of the Gender Committee and Deputy Director of "Kyivteploenergo":
– "Gender equality is an integral part of "Kyivteploenergo’s" corporate policy. For five years, the Gender Committee has done everything possible to support employees who remained at their workplaces. We are deeply grateful to our heroic female employees for their dedication and commitment to our shared mission, as well as to our partners for their assistance during challenging times."

Natalia Kolosova, Head of Communications at "Kyivteploenergo":
– "During the full-scale war, women have played a critical role in maintaining the operation of essential energy infrastructure—a sector traditionally seen as male-dominated. We are thankful to everyone who strengthens our resilience, helps us find the strength to live, work, and, despite everything, find joy in life!"
