As part of the "VONA Hub" project for the economic empowerment of women, the first-ever driver’s courses for women who found themselves in difficult life circumstances due to the war were organized in Ukraine.
Participants were selected from among 2,500 applicants based on their motivational letters and interviews with psychologists. Many of these women had husbands who went to serve in the Ukrainian Armed Forces or lost limbs, so they decided to take the wheel of the family car and acquire new professions.
As part of the project, 15 women attended free driving courses at the "Forsazh UA" driving school. They successfully passed the driving exams for category B and received their driving licenses at the largest service center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the capital.
This project helped women become more mobile, improve their family's financial situation, and gain more confidence in "steering their own life."
The project was implemented at the initiative of the Department of Gender Equality of the Kyiv City State Administration’s Department of Social and Veteran Policy, in partnership with the NGO Innovative Social Solutions, with support from the UN Population Fund in Ukraine, and financial backing from the Government of the United States of America (BHA).
