GENDER PRACTICES OF KYIV

"TatoHub. Kyiv" (Dad Hub)

The TatoHub network of spaces operates in 13 cities across Ukraine. The project, implemented by UNFPA, the UN Population Fund in Ukraine, with the support of the Swedish Government, focuses on promoting responsible fatherhood.

In Kyiv, TatoHub began its work in 2021, initially in an online format. The online community was based on a Facebook group, where fathers could engage in discussions and activities such as:
- discussions about partnership relations, childcare, raising children, and spending quality time with them, as well as the equitable distribution of household work and the harmfulness of gender stereotypes;
- online courses and webinars on relationships, building trusting relationships with children, child psychology, sexual education, preventing domestic violence, non-conflict communication, and stress management;
- consultations and discussions on various topics between fathers and psychologists;
- information about family-friendly events and services available in public institutions (e.g., in cafes, leisure centers);
- interviews and podcasts with public fathers, including those sharing their experiences with parental leave.

Since the start of the full-scale invasion, TatoHub specialists, in addition to helping develop parenting skills, have been providing psychological support to families, facilitating the integration of internally displaced persons (IDPs) into the community, and assisting in the adaptation of war veterans. A crucial aspect of the hubs' work is preventing domestic violence, which has escalated during the war.

In 2024, TatoHub. Kyiv expanded into offline activities. The hub offers free workshops, activities, and meetings with specialists for children and their parents, focusing on parenting and various child-related topics.

A significant project in 2024 was "TatoShkola" (Dad School), implemented jointly with the Kyiv City Maternity Hospital No. 1 and Kyiv City Maternity Hospital No. 2. The program for future mothers and fathers encourages internal transformation, teaching nonviolent communication, child care principles, and new models of family behavior, which strengthen partnership relationships within families.

Another important project of TatoHub. Kyiv is a series of training sessions for students at vocational education institutions in Kyiv. Psychologists discuss essential but often overlooked topics such as gender stereotypes, domestic violence, and responsible fatherhood practices.

In 2024, TatoHub. Kyiv organized over 70 events, including training sessions, workshops for families with children, offline crisis consultations with psychologists, training on responsible parenthood for mothers and fathers, and awareness-raising activities on overcoming gender stereotypes for students, reaching about 1,500 Kyiv residents.
