The Kyiv Academy of Women’s Leadership is an innovative educational project aimed at empowering women to succeed in their chosen careers and personal lives. Established in 2020 by a community of professional educators, academics, career coaches, and public servants, the Academy’s mission is to promote women’s empowerment and leadership in political, economic, and social spheres, as well as in peacebuilding and security processes.
The Academy offers certificate programs, training sessions, and workshops designed to enhance women’s leadership skills and managerial potential, helping them advance in their careers and increase their influence on policymakers and policy development. Key focus areas include:
Each year, the Academy updates its educational programs, providing participants with critical knowledge to further develop their managerial skills and leadership potential.
During the full-scale invasion, the Academy created a unifying space for women working in Kyiv’s municipal government, civil society institutions, and businesses. This space fosters equal opportunities, where women can enhance their professional and competitive abilities, learn to manage risks during times of uncertainty, build partnerships, and influence local policymakers.
A new educational direction introduced by the Academy focuses on mentorship and developing women’s leadership potential for participating in decision-making processes. Annually, guest lectures are delivered by women leaders, diplomats, members of parliament, and academics who share their unique experiences, inspire confidence, and motivate participants.
This project is implemented by the NGO New Social Vector with support from the Kyiv Gender Equality Office and personal backing from Maryna Honda, Deputy of KCSA Head.
Alina Khaletska, co-founder of New Social Vector and Professor at the Andriy Meleshevych Kyiv-Mohyla School of Governance:
– "We have created a platform for public partnership to promote equality and women’s rights, strengthen their resilience, and enhance their influence in Kyiv. Our partners include civil society and international organizations, foundations, experts, educators, and government bodies that share and implement principles of equal opportunities, protect women’s rights, and support parity democracy."
Tetiana Novytska, Program Director of the Kyiv Academy of Women’s Leadership:
– "The Kyiv Academy of Women’s Leadership is an opportunity to spotlight women leaders from the municipality. It’s perhaps the most optimal and responsible model – to prepare a talent pipeline for municipal officials, particularly women, by unlocking their managerial potential and professional competencies."
